Anchor the Blade

This is a Fundamental Stroke Technique: Even though this stroke fundamental is shown in a kayak, it is true for all types of paddle powered watercraft from canoes to rafts as well. The main purpose of this section is to make every stroke work effectively and efficiently to help you have the safest experience and most fun on the water.

Matthew 6:1-14
Luke 19:11–27

You have been given some incredibly useful gear for enjoying yourself and building skills on the water. Make every stroke count. Don’t waste your energy (or any other of our resources) by getting sidetracked or just splashing at the surface. Dig deep and pull the boat toward your objective to make the most of the time and energy God has given you. Anchoring your blade in the water helps you use less energy to move the boat more effectively through the water.

Don’t waste effort on actions that will still leave you controlled by the currents of the world. Jesus demonstrated the importance of using everything that you have to its fullest as he fed 5,000 people and then saved the leftovers so that “nothing could be lost.” If Jesus paid attention to every little detail to insure that others would be fed, can you do less with your life? If your life is anchored in the grace and love of Jesus, you can then move your life forward and effectively for the long haul.
