Carrying the Boat

This is a “helpful basic” concept: Even though this is shown in a kayak, it is true for all types of paddle powered watercraft from canoes to rafts as well.

Matthew 11:28-30
Philippians 2:1-2

Ben Simms is careful to remind his students that they are demonstrating wisdom, not weakness, when they ask for help in carrying their boats. Sharing the work divides the load and increases the enjoyment. Jesus offers to share our burdens and walk with us through times of hard work and easy journeys. It is important to encourage one another along the way to provide each other with strength and endurance.

Mark 15:21

Sometimes, even the best of us cannot carry the load any longer and need help carrying our heavy burdens. When we see someone struggling with their boat or they are just too worn out to even help carry the load, we can step in and carry it for them. This is one way we can be open to God’s hospitality of service.
